Identification

  • Dark rust brown crown and nape
  • Ash grey sides of head and throat
  • Rusty brown neck band
  • Rufous breast with narrow black bands
  • Brown back with bars and pale brown spots
  • Dark brown rump
  • Black underparts
  • Rusty tail
  • Red brown iris
  • Light brown bill
  • Light brown legs

Distribution

Formerly Chatham Islands, New Zealand.

Taxonomy

This was a monotypic species[1].

Last recorded around 1900.

Habitat

Possibly forest.
