Description

Kiwis from New Zealand.
A very distinctive group of ratites. They have hair-like feathers, a long and slightly decurved bill and are flightless. They are mainly nocturnal.

Taxonomy

Apteryx is a genus in the family Apterygidae.
They are closely related to the extinct Moas.
