Identification

26 cm

  • Mostly green plumage
  • Reddish belly
  • Brown-ear coverts
  • Greyish neck and breast
  • Bright red bend of wing and lesser underwing coverts
  • Yellow greater underwing coverts.
  • Greyish-brown crown

Similar Species

Maroon-bellied Parakeet, which has a green crown.

Distribution

South America: found in the forests of northern Paraguay and south-western Brazil (south-western Mato Grosso)

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1].

Habitat

Deciduous and gallery woodland, also using nearby scrub and savanna.

Behaviour

Diet

The diet includes fruit, seed, nuts, nectar and flowers.
