Taxonomy
Subspecies[1]
There are 2 subspecies
- C. m. montanus:
- Montane forests of south-western Uganda, eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda
- C. m. patulus:
- Montane forests of Kenya to southern Democratic Republic of the Congo, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Mozambique
Forms a superspecies with Olive Long-tailed Cuckoo.
Habitat
Riverine forests and close to water.
Behaviour
Diet
The diet includes butterflies, bees, wasps, locusts and ants, hawked aerially.
Breeding
Breeds probably in the rainy season. A brood parasitic. Suspected host species are Sharpe's Akalat and African Broadbill.
Movements
A resident species with some altitudinal movements.
