Identification

13–14·5 cm

  • Black head with white scallops
  • Narrow white supercilium

Distribution

Northern Australia: found from Broome to Cape York Peninsula and coastal central Queensland

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1].

Some authorities recognise 3 subspecies2

  • R. f. fasciatus
  • R. f. apsleyi
  • R. f. broomei

Habitat

Rivers and swamps, gardens and woodlands.
