• Brown facial disc
• White eyebrows and lores
• Dark brown head
• White spotted chocolate-brown upperparts

Distribution

South America: found in Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia

Taxonomy

Subspecies

There are 2 subspecies

• P. m. melanota:

• Humid forests of south-eastern Colombia to eastern Ecuador and south-eastern Peru

• P. m. philoscia:

• Yungas of west-central Bolivia

Habitat

Humid lowland forests and montanes. Observed at heights around 860 m.

Behaviour

Diet

There has been little recorded, but they are thought to eat insects such as crickets.
