Passage Feeding Frenzy?

Thanks for your response Mary. Quite surprised that nobody else seems to have any other comment about this type of bird feeding behaviour during migration. Either everyone else thinks this is just normal or it's even more of a mystery than I imagined! Who knows....

Passage Feeding Frenzy?

Today was fabulous...........joining the normal array of finches, tits and thrushes were around 30 chiffchaffs, a male blackcap and a small group of spotted flycatchers. The unusual visitors were all feeding mainly on insects. Am I right in thinking this is a passage feeding group?

Red Kite between Swindon & Marlborough

I have seen Red Kites many times before, usually in Wales and occasionally in Oxfordshire, but this morning I saw the first one I can remember seeing in Wiltshire. It was circling over the Ridgeway south of Swindon and being tracked closely for quite a time by a Buzzard who clearly wasn't happy...

Birds in Your Garden

Time for an update. Now up to 44 species - we had a pair of Mallard in the Spring looking for a nest site (42) - we had a Kestrel (43) in late summer hovering over the garden looking for one of our field voles (we have a family in the garden) and last week we had our first Brambling (44)...

Linacre Reservoirs in November - Anything there?

We are looking for a place to go near Chesterfield later this week. It would be good to have a mix of habitats - someone suggested that Linacre was good for both woodland & water.
