Difference between Monarch 5 and 7.
Well if that is the case with the coatings it is hard to justify an additional $180.00 for a wider FOV. -

Other than FOV and eye relief what are the differences between the Monarch 5 8x42 and M7 8x42? They both have ED glass. Are the coatings better on the M7? -

Good Nikon Porros?
I received my 7x35 Aculon bins on Friday. I continue to be very impressed by the Aculon line. My sample is very clear and very sharp at the center. Color is outstanding. No noticeable CA seen. They are actually a bit smaller and lighter than the 7x35 Action IV bins that we have. -

Though I have not actually looked through the EX's, I did a lot of research and it would seem Nikon does not use Aspherical glass with the 7x35 EX but do with the 7x35 Aculon. That is why I opted for the Aculon. The Aspherical glass makes a big difference with wide FOV bins. As far as eye... -

I do like the focusing on these. They are indeed smooth. I was using them this morning viewing birds at my feeders and was very impressed with the clarity, the colors and the contrast. Depth of field is far shallower than my 7x35 Actions but that is to be expected with higher magnification. You... -

Well on a whim I picked up a pair of 10x42 Aculons yesterday. I found them local and was impressed in the store so I bought them. Very lightweight, very sharp, great contrast, great close focus distance for a set of 10x porros, as good as my 7x35 Actions. I was unable to try them out on stars... -

Have you tried your 10x42's out star gazing? I am debating on going with a 10x42 Aculon or a 10x50 Aculon. It will be primarily for birding but I want the option of using it for sky watching as well. -

Where do you go birding in southern Illinois?
My wife and I are wanting to plan a trip to southern Illinois for the first weekend in May. We live in south central Illinois and were thinking somewhere down around Shawnee. I would love to go somewhere we could see some Owls along with other songbird species. Thanks for any input! -

Thanks for that reply. I think I may order a set of the 7x35 Aculons on payday. I was just doing some birding today in my yard. I was trying to use the Vortex Raptors I have and they are just not close to the Nikon Actions. They black out unless you have them set exactly where they want to be... -

I have tried several other bins, Monarch 5 8x42, hated the narrow FOV, Vanguard Spirit 8x36, just not that Sharp and fairly dull if that makes any sense. I got a pair of Vortex Raptor 6.5x30 they are ok except they don't focus close enough. So I keep using the old Nikon Action 7x35s. The...
