Rishiri Island, Hokkaido, Japan - bird identification

The bush warbler-ish bird looks like JBW and -to me at least, they look very variable in size (and shape). But I don't see clear distinction points between the two species. On the other hand, should Sakhalin not have a shorter tail and a less yellowish rump area? I have no experience with...

    Taiwan, Hawk Eagle?

Looking good, it might be this bird in same state of moult ML617964867 - Mountain Hawk-Eagle - Macaulay Library I don't know about the size of this mountain(range) and the number of territories but other than that... cheers, Gerben (hoping to be able to see one next spring....)

Accipiter - Mara-do, off Jeju, South Korea

The blur makes it very tough I would think to pick one of 4-ish options. If you have originals, it might be best to post these too. good luck cheers, Gerben

Pha Taem NP Thailand - Blue Rock Thrush again, Bulbul, Flycatcher...?

immature male, yes.. Asian Brown would be my first pick too. I doubt it can be said though. Grey-streaked and Dark-sided Flycatcher (and other similar Thai species) may look very similar under circumstances. (Grahame help!) I'll kindly pass on the bulbul. cheers, G

Pha Taem NP Thailand - Eurasian Jay, Spotted Dove, Rock Thrush ....?

Nice looking Jay, I didn't realize a range of pale, white-faced Jays inhabit the southern part of Eurasian Jay range roughly from Morocco to Myanmar. Blue Rock is correct. Spotted Dove, the collar seems very typical (no experience with the species though) cheers, Gerben

    Japanese Cormorant, Nanhui, Shanghai, China

Not an expert but I would call it that in Japan. Typical white side of the head is not conclusive I believe, the sharp edge of the naked yellow skin is. Cheers, Gerben

Thailand, Phu Hin Rong Kla NP - maybe a Blue Rock Thrush or ...?

Limited live experience with philippensis, but in photo 2 it does look big headed, strong billed for blue rock Are you sure it is a Blue? No time now to dive into the matter, just asking Cheers G

Leaf Warbler Identification - Lake Miyagase, Kanagawa, Japan

Good luck (and good fun) with them all, these coming weeks you will be able to find all leaf warblers during migration I suspect, loudly singing....but then IDing them on sight alone is near impossible, except for Eastern Crowned of course. Videoing your birds might come in handy. cheers, Gerben

what the... photos from the web of not-BaerĀ“s pochards- location unknown

Bar-headed Goose is a cross between a plane and birds more or less, it seems. Since it shows such off 'photos' it gets almost cute...but not quite. And weird in a dr frankenstein kinda way.... cheers, G

(not my record): Raven or Large-billed Crow | Sapporo, September 2023

Yes, I considered that too, and it may well be that... a scruffy adult... Will edit it in in post1. edit 2: this is maybe an academic question, as it seems highly unlikely to encounter a tame-ish Raven on the outskirts of Sapporo when they used be seen only in remote areas of Eastern Hokkaido...

(not my record): Raven or Large-billed Crow | Sapporo, September 2023

I am often trying hard to find the common things that Common Crows share vs what Large-billed Crows share in Japan. The clear Common Crows are obvious, the clear Large-billed Crows are a lot more obvious...and then there is the odd Raven... Not usually in Honshu or farther south, but in...
