Brief review of Meopta Meostar B1+ 8x42. (in comparison with Zeiss Victory SFL 8x40

Adhoc, don’t worry. Thread has been dormant for some time. 😊 I have good company for bino outings but not too often. When I am out on my own my set up varies, often ”just” the 12x50HD on a monopod, sometimes just an 7/8x. With the BTX I prefer bringing a smaller handheld bino, for convenience.

Brief review of Meopta Meostar B1+ 8x42. (in comparison with Zeiss Victory SFL 8x40

Adhoc: it is the same with me. I did many years of one eyed looking through cameras as a photographer and had no issues with it at the time. But for the last fifteen years, trying to look through scopes I realized it is no longer for me. Which was a bit sad, as I like optics. However the BTX is...

    Wondering about Ultravids, esp. 12x50...

I think the Ultravid series (for me, that is) has the least wiggle room between great and mediocre viewing experience. With glasses (which I use all the time) I struggle at times with the 7x42 UVHD+. I am between stops on the eye pieces which in itself is not a problem but I find that the out...

    A Meopta Meostar 8x32 B1.1 with a Serial number starting with 160xxx ?

A little perspective in size: The Meopta B1 8x32 side by side with my former 8x32 Swarovski Pure NL. Brought my Meopta for a coffee/bino session and did a brief side by side yesterday. The Meopta does not disappoint. On its own merits it has everything: compact size, excellent ergonomics, a...

Brief review of Meopta Meostar B1+ 8x42. (in comparison with Zeiss Victory SFL 8x40

Jackjack: I assume he means the same series of Meostar non HD vs HD. I think there is some agreement on the difference by many who have seriously looked through them. My conclusion is that non HD Meostars are very fine binoculars and have traits that make them very attractive for the price...

Brief review of Meopta Meostar B1+ 8x42. (in comparison with Zeiss Victory SFL 8x40

I also think the Meostar focusers are generally on the slow side. The one on the 12x50 is very even and smooth and I don't find it as slow in practical use as on the 8x32. Maybe it is because I seldom go from near to far range but more often from far range to mid range on the 12X. On the...

Brief review of Meopta Meostar B1+ 8x42. (in comparison with Zeiss Victory SFL 8x40

adhoc: I went from the Meostar HD 15x56 (which I think is great) to the Meostar HD 12x50 which I think is "the best" since it combines 12x reach with a very crisp, zero CA image in virtually any condition. I do regard the Meostar 10x42HD (which I also have owned, and have friends who still...

    Wondering about Ultravids, esp. 12x50...

Oh, it seems we have similar eye cup issues. I am not sure you would like the 12x50 then. If you are saying the older Trinovids are better it makes me curious to try one out some day. I am not entirely happy with the 7x42 uvhd eye cups. But, since I now have a smooth focuser I am coping...

    Wondering about Ultravids, esp. 12x50...

Compared to the SFL 8x40 the Meopta is a little less of everything. After some use I don’t think of it much unless I would compare them, I think adequate is a poor choice of words, the Meopta is great. It is one of those perfect size bins for my hands and that is worth plenty for a bino, even...

    Wondering about Ultravids, esp. 12x50...

tenex, you are right. On the Meopta 8x32 I did have to pay extra attention to the Diopter setting which made a difference. It lacks a little bit of contrast compared to the UVHD+. That probably makes for the perceived (not necessarily true) difference in apparent sharpness at far. That aside...

    Wondering about Ultravids, esp. 12x50...

I am very fond of the Ultravids. The exception being the 12x50. I find the balance a bit off and the shape does not help with that. Add the short eye relief on top of that and it is simply not working for me. First time I tried one out was before I had glasses and I was used to "long handheld...

Maybe still (one of) the best binoculars for in the woods

I think they are ruggedly handsome, the older Trinovids.

    What's the latest on Meopta?

Thinking about it, the new investors are probably not very well aware of the history of Meopta other than "brochure deep". They might not have been looking closely at how Meopta have been advertising (or NOT) the different segments over time. Surely they look at the numbers - but not what has...

    What's the latest on Meopta?

I agree. Probably pure number crunching from their part. Usually that leads to streamlining the portfolio and in worst case Meopta loses the uniqueness of the brand and turns into just another optics manufacturer, catering more to other industries.

Brief review of Meopta Meostar B1+ 8x42. (in comparison with Zeiss Victory SFL 8x40

Meostar non HD models seem to lack that last bit of crispness at far range. They are still very nice binoculars. I have tried most of them and owned three/four of them, two HD models and one non HD. The 8x42 was sent to me by mistake (I ordered the 8x32 at the time) so I had only one day with...
