Wood Stork
The wrinkled head skin and dark bill make this an adult. Threatened in the US, they are sensitive to changing water levels and refuse to breed unless lowering water levels can concentrate fish. Storks were formerly included with the herons, but based on (apparently faulty) genetic data were temporarily included with the American Vultures. More recent studies (Science 320: 1760–1768) have placed the storks in their own order, Ciconiiformes (pronounced sick-oh-NEE-a-form-ees) containing only one family the Ciconiidae. Formerly called "Wood Ibis."
