Ruby-topaz Hummingbird (m)
I took dozens of photos of the Ruby-topaz Hummingbird in the hope of capturing its iridescent colours in the sun and this is the only one that really worked!
Habitat
Tropical garden feeder
Location
PAX Guest House, Port of Spain, Trinidad
Date taken

Scientific name
Chrysolampis mosquitus
Equipment used
Canon EOS 90D with Canon EF 300mm f2.8L IS II US
At least one worked, Peter! The colours are stunning and it’s a wonderful capture.

Iridescence in bird feathers is typically caused by specialised structures that reflect and refract light, generating a range of colours and unusual visual effects. Iridescent feathers play a number of roles in bird behaviour, from attracting mates to camouflaging from predators. (From the www)

I add this "copy and paste" from the internet because it perfectly describes their beauty.
You got a lovely capture of this hovering gem.

A stunning species of hummingbird and a magnificent capture. Great stop-action, focus, eye contact, colors, detail, and background. Exquisite Peter!

This handsome guy is normally a difficult subject as he does require light at the correct angle, Peter.
And you have done him justice.

Marvelous shot!

That really is a fantastic action shot in stunning lighting Peter, many TFS!
