Laughing Kookaburra (Juvenile) (Dacelo novaeguineae)

Kookaburras (pronounced /ˈkʊkəbʌrə/)[3][4] are terrestrial tree kingfishers of the genus Dacelo native to Australia and New Guinea, which grow to between 28 and 47 cm (11 and 19 in) in length and weigh around 300 g (11 oz). The name is a loanword from Wiradjuri guuguubarra, onomatopoeic of its call.
Habitat
They are found in habitats ranging from humid forest to arid savannah, as well as in suburban areas with tall trees or near running water. Though they belong to the larger group known as "kingfishers", kookaburras are not closely associated with water.

A great picture of this character H. Well done finding one there, as they're not native to that side of the country. I did see one in Perth, at Lake Claremont though.

You've a cracking picture of him - well done laddie.

Happy New Year to you

Appears to be plenty of them around the Margaret River and further south making a racket laughing on an evening.

In WA I was staying most of the time in Albany, a bit further south than you were. Though "a bit" may be rather relative LOL! I really don't remember seeing or hearing any round there.
