On my first day of birding:
Anna's Hummingbirds, male and female, within two meters of us.
A Veery one tree over.
A Northern Flicker one tree over.
A Ring-Necked Pheasant, in full breeding plumage, about 50 meters away.
Lots of swallows flying and feeding.
Robins, shy at first, but then following us around.
Lots of ducks, male and female: Mallards, Coots, Gadwalls, Northern Shovelers.
A Marsh Wren.
And if all that wasn't enough, a Bald Eagle perched high up in a tree, maybe 100 meters away, fluffing himself to dry off from the bathing in the lake that another couple witnessed and then told us about.
I have been assured that this was an exceptional day, but hey, how am I to know? It was my first day.
