peregrine nest site (1 Viewer)

i was at a disused quarry today and came across a large nest in the rock face which i was led to believe was a peregrine nest but when i read up on this the article say's that peregrines do not make a nest but sometimes would use a vacated nest, the nest was on a ledge and was quite large and i was wondering if anyone had any ideas as i am quite new at this bird watching thing and if it was a peregrine nest (which are in the area) it would be something interesting to look forward to in the breeding season.

Keep your eye on it early next year.It sounds like a Ravens nest but Peregrines do use them as well as just a bare ledge.Ravens will lay as early as February so if they do not lay in this particular nest it is likely the Peregrines will take it on.Remember that to get anywhere near it you will need a disturbance licence as Peregrines are a schedule 1 protected species.
A warm welcome to the Birdforum.
