Mourning Dove Nest Advice (1 Viewer)

Hi. I have a mourning dove nest in one of my grapevines. I'm getting a bit worried as the vine has been growing quite rapidly lately, and it's been giving the nesting area less and less space. Judging from how big the grapevine grew last year, I'm sure the nest will be completely closed off in a few weeks. Should I do anything about it? There are vines and leaves already pushing on the adult.

It's extremely unlikely that the vines will be too thick for the birds to squeeze through. A nice thick covering is exactly what most birds prefer- it keeps the nest safe from predators, and as a bonus, it keeps the sun and rain off too.

Hi Bluehawk and a warm welcome to you from all the Staff and Moderators.

I agree with Nartreb. I should leave well alone.

BTW where is "What"? I'm guessing somewhere in North America if you have Mouring Doves LOL.

I'm sure you will enjoy it here and I look forward to hearing your news.

Welcome to Birdforum!

It is against the law to interfere with a nest and if you were to do any work to the vine it is likely that the disturbance would cause the birds to abandon the nest.
