Flock of Birds (1 Viewer)

The other day I was sitting on the veranda in the evening and every 10-15 minutes I noticed a large flock of birds would fly out from the tree tops and fly sort of in the direction of a half circle, then go into the tree tops again. Anyone know why they do this? They didn't seem to be going anywhere, just back and forth from tree to tree, all together at the same time. I think they were sparrows but I couldn't tell for sure.
