California or Herring Gull (1 Viewer)

Looks like a third-year gull or a non-breeding adult, but it is only the beginning of August. The photo was taken at Gull Lake in central Alberta.

Agreed with above that this looks better for Herring, while not quite in full adult plumage it shows a pale-ish eye which is another point against California which has dark eyes.
