In past years we've found Speckled and Oak Bush-crickets in our Enfield garden, but I think this one is a Southern-oak? I think I remember reading that they were now common in the London area?

Thank-you for any comments.

Yes, this is a female Southern Oak Bush-cricket. In my experience this is the orthopteroid that now seems most common in London gardens. Often come across it when pruning shrubs or beating foliage in late summer.

Thanks Aeshna5,

We were pruning the plum tree at the end of the garden, when Carrin found it crawling on her clothes, so your description of how to find them was spot on. The first one we've seen.

Thanks again, Phil and Carrin
