Identification
Tiny Falcon ( 15 cm ). sexually dimorphic. Male has forehead and crown ( to rear of eye ) white, the rest of the crown, nape and upperparts black. Thin white supercillia reaching around the rear of the earcoverts. Lores and earcoverts black. Chin and throat white, occasionally washed rich buff. Breast, flanks and belly rich buff. Undertail coverts black. Wings and tail black. Eye dark brown with grey eyering, bill and legs dark grey. female has forehead and forecrown buff. Juveniles as female except wing coverts and primaries broadly tipped pale buff and "cheeks" can have a rufous tinge.
Distribution
Forests of northern Borneo north of a line between Lawas River and Darvel Bay.

Edges of moist lowland forests and arable land.

Diet
The diet includes bees, moths, cicadas, butterflies; sometimes birds.
Breeding
They nest in barbet and woodpecker holes in March–April.
