Andes of Peru to northwestern Argentina and northern Chile.

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1].

Habitat

Freshwater lakes and saline marshes.

Behaviour

Diet

There is little information available, but it is known they eat small crustaceans.

When not breeding they feed in loose parties.

Breeding

They lay 2-4 sandy-coloured eggs in short matted grass.
