Identification
33–35 cm (13-13¾ in)
- Overall dark. plumage
- Heavily streaked underparts
- Red bill and orbital skin
Similar Species
Similar to the allopatric Natal Francolin but head pattern is different and they are more black and buff on the underparts.
Distribution
Highlands of central Ethiopia found on a few places along the Blue Nile valley and some of its tributaries.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species[1].
Formerly placed in genus Francolinus.
Habitat
Shallow water courses with beds of typha and scattered trees. Scrubby hillsides between 1500 and 2500 m
Beheaviour
Diet
Their diet consists of tubers, seeds and berries.
Breeding
It is thought they may be polygamous.
