Identification

15cm.

  • Ash blue
  • White belly
  • Black patch between eye and bill, bordered with bright blue above and below
  • Broad black bill
  • Female duller

Juvenile

  • Brown
  • Pale buff spots on head, back, wing-coverts and breast
  • Flight feathers edged with blue-grey

Distribution

Forested uplands of Sri Lanka.

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1].

Habitat

Wet montane forest.

Behaviour

Breeding

It builds a cup-shaped nest, lined with moss. The clutch consists of 2-3 brown-spotted pink eggs.

Diet

The diet includes flying insects, beetles, caterpillars and berries.
