Identification

30–35 cm

  • Black above
  • Buff below
  • Bold dark barred underparts
  • Bare bright orange skin above eye
  • White barred, dark tail

Distribution

South America: found in the rainforests of Brazil and north-eastern Bolivia.

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1].

Habitat

Lowland tall tree forests with palms and thick understorey.

Behaviour

Diet

There is little recorded information, but they are known to eat reptiles and invertebrates; also small birds are thought to be included.
