Green plumage
Large black wing patches
Dull yellow around eyes
Blue-grey beak
Brown eyes.

Distribution

Eastern Andes of western South America: found in Bolivia and Peru

Taxonomy

Subspecies^[1]

There are 2 subspecies:

H. m. peruviana: dull turquoise head with dark ear coverts

Andes of central and southern Peru

H. m. melanotis: green head, blue neck band, dull red ear coverts

Andes of Bolivia (La Paz and Cochabamba)

Habitat

Montane forest.

Behaviour

The diet includes fruit.
