Odd duck- mallardlike male without breeding plumage in Leipzig, Germany this march

I had a moment there - is that where the duck-billed platypus came from? ;-)

    Garden / Yard List 2024

That's a bit of a weird sounding cuckoo - sounds like it's got a bit of a frog in its throat!

    Aurora borealis/Northern Lights

I got pretty excited about my first glacier ... with birders being out and about there is a lot of crossover to the whole natural world - guess that includes geography and various sciences etc Cloudy last night here unfortunately. Did wake up and look out about 3am, there was high flecking...

    May Moths

Has there been a bit of a Silver Y influx? One in my garden too today, with another 3 in a 50m stretch up at my place. Also a Small Yellow Underwing, smart little thing, a dayflyer.

    Aurora borealis/Northern Lights

Good show on Friday night, less so last night (but still a strong luminescent greenish glow in the sky before midnight and again before dawn when I checked (Cornwall)) https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cglv53402mko Apparently still a good likelihood tonight and Monday night (12th/13th May)

    Garden / Yard List 2024

I had a John Wyndham moment about half an hour in while looking out of the velux window ... The sky started off as a luminous green to the north when I went out about 11, I was wondering if I was imagining it and there was major works on the A30 10 miles to the north. Later on deep magenta...

Brown Booby may get split - an issue for British listers?

Aren't they more similar in numbers though? Only an order of magnitude difference (of specifically id'ed birds, loads non-specific, either before criteria or id unable to be made), and either could conceivably turn up depending on circumstances. Whereas there have been 3 (known) Taiga Fly in...

Brown Booby may get split - an issue for British listers?

The analogy should be with 2 rarities surely (as already mentioned), one considerably rarer than the other ... eg Red-breated and Taiga Flycatcher?? Can be checked, generally, but not always? Seabirds are known to wander, so can't be ruled out. But surely pragmatism should rule - if there are...

birdie 🦆 #711: 🟨🟨🟩⬛⬛⬛ https://birdiegame.net/ I'm still doing this, just not every day, and generally varying between lucky guesses and failing miserably ... ;-)
