Texas Tortoise (Gopherus berlandieri)

A limited range species from Southern Texas and adjacent Mexico. This docile tortoise is listed as a threatened species because of severe population declines mostly caused by heavy exploitation by pet suppliers. It is primarily vegetarian, feeding on prickly pear fruit. Sometimes called "Berlandier's Tortoise."
