Short-eared Owl

Short-eared Owl

The Short-eared Owl is one of the most active Owls during sunlight. This picture taken at around 9 this morning. Winter is the best time to see these birds due to migrants from Scandinavia and Russia. Short-eared Owls in Britain don't necessarily inhabit the same landscape as they do in continental Europe and that is believed to be due to the availability of different prey; here in Britain they feed mostly on Short-tailed Field Voles and inhabit the landscape accordingly. The Short-eared Owl is a medium-sized owl measuring length 34–43 cm, weighing 206–475g; females are generally much larger than males. The wingspan of adults ranges from 85 to 110 cm. The Short-eared Owl is one of the most widespread owl species in the world, covering five continents.

Jealous of this beautiful owl. Seems like there's so much of it in the British Isles--I'd want to be getting more of them as well.
