Bordered Patch (Chlosyne lacinia)

Ranging from the southwestern US to Argentina. Sometimes called Sunflower Patch, this is an attractive highly variable member of the Checkerspot Tribe (Melitaeini). Note the white spot on top of its head, a feature of this tribe. This is presumably the race "C. l. adjutrix" ranging from southern Texas into Mexico and usually characterized by having a broad orange band and many white spots within the dark border lacking in subspecies from New Mexico and Arizona.
