Myrmoborus leucophrys

12–13 cm (4¾-5 in)

  • Broad white supercilium
  • Dark bluish grey body
  • Black face and throat
  • Plain wings

Female: brown upperparts, white underparts. Black mask and cinnamon-buff supercilium.


South America: Colombia, Venezuela, The Guianas, Guyana, Suriname, French Guiana, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia and Brazil


This is a polytypic species[1] consisting of 4 subspecies:


  • M. l. angustirostris:
  • M. l. erythrophrys:
  • East slope of Eastern Andes of Colombia and north-western Venezuela
  • M. l. koenigorum:
  • Central Peru (upper Río Huallaga Valley in Huánuco)
  • M. l. leucophrys:
  • South Colombia to eastern Peru, north-eastern Bolivia and western Amazonian Brazil


The understorey of evergreen forests, forest borders and edges.



Their diet consists of a variety of spiders and insects, including beetles.
