Identification
10 cm. A small Tapaculo with orange flanks.
- Dark grey upperparts
- Rufous-brown rump an uppertail-coverts with indistinct bars
- Dusky wings
- Grey tail with a black terminal band
- Medium grey underparts, pale grey belly and bright cinnamon-rufous flanks
Females are similar but paler grey, with a brown wash on nape and brighter rufous flanks.
Distribution
Endemic to east-cetnral Peru (southern Cordillera Vilcabamba).
Locally common.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species.
Habitat
Found in humid montane and elfin forest, usually in areas with boulders and lots of moss.
Occurs at 3500 to 4170m.

Diet
Diet unknown. Creeps and hops around in dense mossy vegetation around the tree-line and in boulder fields.
Breeding
No information available.
Movements
This is probably a sedentary species.
