Contopus punensis

Identification

Distribution

South America: Andes of western Ecuador and western Peru (south to Ica)

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1].

Formerly included in Tropical Pewee together with Northern Tropical Pewee and Southern Tropical Pewee.

Habitat

A variety of woodlands from coast to 2800 m asl in Peru. Mostly connected with edges and semiopen woods.

Behaviour

Expected to eat insects.

Vocalisation

Main song is a two-part whiste where the first part may be descending and the second part sometimes takes on a trill structure, "teew-tee". A short version, "tee" may be a call.
