Identification
18 cm. A small, olive-brown bulbul with a slight crest.
- Olive-brwon crown and ear-coverts with narrow pale shaft streaks
- Dull olive-brown upperparts
- Brown wings and tail with pale olive fringing on upperside of flight-feathers and rectrices
- Yellowish-white throat with olive-yellow streaks, getting darker on breast and flanks and smudged with pale olive and greyish
- Primrose-yellow lower breast, belly and undertail-coverts
Sexes similar, juveniles undescribed.
Distribution
Endemic to Palawan in the western Philippines.
An uncommon and poorly known restricted-range species.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species.
Sometimes placed in the genus Ixos or in Hypsipetes.
Habitat
Found in evergreen forest, forest edges and secondary growth in the mountains of Palawan.
Behaviour
Usually seen singly, in pairs or in small flocks.
Diet
Not well known. Feeds probably on fruit and insects.
Breeding
Birds with enlarged gonads were recorded in April. No other information.
Movements
This is a resident species.
