Pitohui cerviniventris


20-21 cm

  • Cerviniventris
    • Paler grey crown and side of head than back
    • Greyish-brown throat
    • Greyish-brown upperparts
    • Browner and darker wings and tail
    • Rust coloured underparts
  • Pallidus
    • Paler than cerviniventris, particularly on underparts


Islands near New Guinea


Southern Variable Pitohui, Raja Ampat Pitohui, and Northern Variable Pitohui were previously included in Variable Pitohui


Two subspecies are recognized[1].

  • P. c. pallidus on Sagewin and Batanta islands
  • P. c. cerviniventris on Waigeo and Gemien islands


Inhabits lowlands, ranging from primary forests to edges and gardens.


Food includes insects and food.


Melodious whistles covering a large range in pitch and given at a relatively slow pace (about one note per second but most notes rather complex).
