In the form presented in Opus, Pygmy Antwren includes two subspecies, ''brachyura'' and ''ignota''.  A split of Moustached Antwren (=Colombian Antwren) ''Myrmotherula ignota'' from Pygmy Antwren has been proposed and is currently recognized by the Clements Checklist but not by Howard & Moore; Moustaced Antwren would include [[Short-billed Antwren]] ''Myrmotherula obscura'' as a subspecies.
