Chlorocichla prigoginei

Identification

19-20cm. A medium-sized Greenbul.

  • Pale grey lores and preorbital area
  • Greyish-white eyering
  • Yellowish olive-green upperparts and rest of head
  • Olive tail with yellowish olive-green margins
  • White chin
  • Bright yellow throat
  • Greenish-yellow underparts with darker and greener side of breast and flanks
  • Dark red eyes
  • Black bill

Sexes similar, females are smaller than males. Juveniles undescribed.

Similar species

Smaller than Joyful Greenbul. Note also white chin (not yello) and grey lores.

Distribution

Endemic to some small areas in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Found on the Lendu Plateau and some scattered localities between Beni and Butembo.
An endangered restricted-range species. Threatened by logging and converting of forest into agricultural land.

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species.
It might form a superspecies with Joyful Greenbul.

Habitat

Gallery forest, isolated forest patches in savanna and thickets. Occurs at 1350 - 1800m.

Behaviour

Little information about diet.
Seems to be more silent than its relatives and shows no wing-flicking.
No information about breeding or any movements.
