Lophotriccus vitiosus


10 cm (4 in)

  • Long, white-edged, black crown feathers
  • Whitish lores
  • Olive upperparts
  • Dusky wings with two greenish-yellow wingbars
  • Dusky tail

Sexes similar; female's crest is less developed


South America: found in Colombia, Guyana, Suriname, French Guiana, Ecuador, Peru and Brazil.



There are 4 subspecies[1]:

  • L. v. affinis:
  • L. v. guianensis:
  • The Guianas and north-eastern Brazil (Amap  and Par ); Mato Grosso?
  • L. v. congener:
  • Western Amazonian Brazil (Rio Juru  in south-west Amazonas)
  • L. v. vitiosus:
  • Eastern Peru (eastern San Mart¡n, southern Loreto and Hu nuco)


Swamps and lowland damp forests, forest edges and second growth.



They are most likely to feed on insects, gleaned by quick sallies to the underside of leaves, but no detail of their diet is known.


They construct a dome-shaped nest with a downward facing entrance. The clutch contains two eggs.
