Overview
There are 3 main areas to Bosque de Chapultepec. Sections 1 and 2 house major museums and can be quite disturbed (especially section 1: despite this it has the larger species list—even though section 2 has more checklists). These two include major water bodies. The third section is much less visited but has an interesting complement of species, being more like peripheral sites like Bosque de Tlalpan.
Birds
Notable Species
All sections: Vaux's Swift (especially above Lago menor de Chapultepec at 19341135° N, 99.19938° W), Greater Pewee (listen for its insistent calling), Cinnamon-bellied Flowerpiercer, Rufous-backed Robin, Grey Silky-flycatcher.
Standard (Audubon's) Yellow-rumped Warbler are joined by Black-and-white Warbler, Orange-crowned Warbler and Nashville Warbler. The warblers are especially attracted to introduced Grevillea (orange) and Eucalyptus (light yellow) flowers.
Section 1: The water course near the food stalls at approx. 19.42251° N, 99.18296° W may be good for warblers. Check Lago Menor at approx. 19.42099° N, 99.18448° W for Green Heron.
Section 2 especially: waterfowl such as Northern Shoveler, Ruddy Duck, Great White Egret, Snowy Egret and Green Heron at Lago menor de Chapultepec and Lago mayor de Chapultepec (19.41874° N, 99.19937° W). Check flowering trees along the Paseo de los Compositores (19.41629° N, 99.19762° W) for Broad-billed and Berylline hummingbirds.
Other species perhaps more regular in section 2 include: Ladder-backed Woodpecker, Hammond's Flycatcher, Buff-breasted Flycatcher, Cassin's Kingbird, and Blue-grey Gnatcatcher.
Section 3: Keep an eye out for more unusual species like Blue Mockingbird and Striped Sparrow.
Other Wildlife
Mexican Grey Squirrels are common.
Access and Facilities
Section 2. The route from Metro station Constituyentes to the park passes over several bridges. At around 19.41380° N 99.19273° W there are flowering Grevilleas with a good view from the pedestrian bridge. The entry point from 19.41304° N, 99.19473° W can yield interesting birds.
