Overview

Barda Wildlife Sanctuary is located approximately 9 miles / 15 kilometers from Porbandar near the Arabian Sea[1].

Although not large, as sanctuaries are prone to be, at approximately 74 square miles / 192 square kilometers, it has a significant floral composition.

Some forms of wildlife formerly present, are beginning to be threatened.

Notable Species

Although small in size, this sanctuary can claim a total of 96 species of birds having been recorded here with at least four considered near- threatened[2].

Rarities

A species of birds, the Crested Hawk-Eagle, that had been found here is now considered rare/endangered[1].

Barda is a former private forest of the ex-princely State of Ranava and is still referred to by those terms by some people.

Porbandar Airport (PBD) is the closest commercial airport to Barda. There is also some military usage present.
