Subspecies
This is a polytypic species consisting of 5 subspecies[1]:
- C. f. semiflava:
- C. f. leucophrys:
- C. f. cerula:
- C. f. magnirostris:
- South-western Ecuador (Pichincha to El Oro)
- C. f. flaveola:
An additional subspecies amazona is not recognised by most authorities[2].
Habitat
Atlantic forest, humid second growth; shrubby areas at the edge of woodland and in forest clearings, especially where there is bamboo.
Behaviour
Diet
The diet includes insects, spiders and small berries.
Breeding
It builds a cup nest from plant fibre and grass blades, decorated outside with moss, placed in a tree, shrub, or maize plant. The 2 white eggs, may have very light rufous speckles.
