Pauxi unicornis

Identification

185-95 cm. All-black, with white vent and tip to tail. Bright red bill and pale blue, long, horn-shaped casque. Pale red legs. Female like male, but also has a rufous colour phase.

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species.
It formerly included Sira Curassow. Two subspecies are recognized[1]:

Habitat

Lower montane forest and adjacent lowland evergreen forest.

Behaviour

Diet

Its diet includes fruit, seeds, soft plants, larvae and insects.

Breeding

1 egg is laid.
