The Philippines (except Palawan, Sulu Archipelago)1
Taxonomy
- A monotypic species.
- Formerly held Talaud Bush-hen (A. magnirostris) and Rufous-tailed Bush-hen (A. moluccana), and was called merely "Bush-hen." Prior to that, all these taxa fell under White-breasted Waterhen (A. phoenicurus).

Aquatic habitats.
