Identification
Buff-brown, scaled pattern on back and wings produced by black feathers with buff, grey, or red fringes, black-and-white patch on neck, long, grey, white-tipped tail, red legs. Sexes are similar.
Distribution
India, southeast Asia, and southern Japan.
Taxonomy
The Oriental Turtle Dove is a member of the family Columbidae, doves and pigeons. It has two distinctive races, S. o. orientalis in the central Siberian taiga, and S. o. meena in central Asia.
Habitat
Forests.
Behaviour
Two white eggs are laid in a twig nest in a tree.
