Identification
24 - 26cm. A medium-sized laughingthrush.
- Chestnut-brown plumage
- Brilliant green-gold panels on winges and sides of tail with black primaries
- Grey ear-coverts and nape
- Heavy black spots on upper mantle and scales on breast
- Rich chestnut crown
- Blackish lores and throat
- Dark eye
Distribution
Peninsular Thailand and Malaysia.
Common in part of its range.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species.
It was formerly included in Chestnut-crowned Laughingthrush.
Also placed in the genus Garrulax.
Habitat
Understorey and bamboo in broadleaf evergreen forest. Also in mixed forest, secondary growth and rhododendron scrub. Found above 1000m.
Behaviour
