Identification

30cm. Bright red plumage, black shoulder, red iris, orange red bill, violet ear-patch behind eye, red underwings, becoming yellowish with black tips. Sexes similar.

Distribution

Papua New Guinea.

Taxonomy

Monotypic.

Habitat

Coasts and forests, coconut plantations.

Behaviour

The eggs are white and are incubated by the female.
