- Melignomon zenkeri
Identification
14.5 cm. Small, thin-billed Honeyguide.
Rather plain with dark olive brown upperparts, yellowish buff undersides. Extensive white on outer tail feathers with narrow (sometimes broken) terminal band. Eye black, bill black upper mandible, distal 25% black on yellow lower mandible, legs dusky yellowish grey.
Distribution
Africa:
Western Africa: found in Guinea, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon and Democratic Republic of Congo
Eastern Africa: occurs only in Uganda
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species[1].
Habitat
Moist subtropical and tropical lowlands and mountains.
Behaviour
Rather sluggish and easily overlooked.
Diet
Their diet is not well known but appears to be insect-based, including pupae and cocoons.
Vocalisation
Call: A high, monotonous "teet teet teet"
