Identification

- Yellowish overall plumage
- Brighter yellow throat
- Curved black line from bill base to below eye
- Pale grey streaks on breast
Distribution
Papua New Guinea and Australia
Australian range: Northern Territory, Queensland and Western Australia.
Taxonomy
Formerly placed in the genus Lichenostomus.
Subspecies
Two subspecies recognized[1]:
- P. f. flavescens in Northern Australia
- P. f. melvillensis on Melville and Bathurst Islands and savanna of southeast New Guinea
Habitat
Tropical open forests and woodlands, generally near rivers and wetlands.
Behaviour
Diet
Their main diet consists of nectar and invertebrates; insects and spiders, with the addition of seeds and honeydew.
