Identification

19 cm

  • Yellow-white bill with bluish tip
  • Scarlet forehead
  • Black and white hindcrown and mantle
  • Bluish-black upperparts and sides of head
  • White throat and upper breast
  • Buffish breast-band
  • Yellow-white underparts
  • Yellowish on flanks

Distribution

South America: endimic to Colombia.

  • Central Andes of north-western Colombia (Bolivar to Antioquia)
  • C. h. carrikeri:
  • North-central Colombia (Botero area of Río Porce in Antioquia)
  • C. h. extinctus:
  • Colombia (Magdalena Valley in Caldas, Cundinamarca, Tolima)

Habitat

Tropical wet forest, pastureland, and plantations.

Behaviour

Diet

The diet includes seeds, fruit and insects.
