Identification
10–11·4 cm (4-4½ in).
Male
- Dark olive-gray above
- Iridescent blue-black throat
- Yellow belly.
Female
- Brownish above
- Yellow below
- Slender yellow eyebrow.
Both sexes have white tail edges that flare out in flight.

Taxonomy
This is one of the eight Sunbirds that have been split from the former Olive-backed Sunbird. Recently been moved to the genus Cinnyris from the genus Nectarinia.
Subspecies
This is a monotypic species[1].

Behaviour
Diet
Their main diet consists of small insects, spiders, nectar and fruit.
They feed singly, in pairs and in small groups.
Breeding
The flask-shaped nest, with an overhanging porch at the entrance, and a trail of hanging material at the bottom end is built only by the female. The 1-3 greenish-blue eggs are incubated for 11-16 days. Both parents care for the young which fledge after a further two weeks.
