Overview

Thol Sanctuary is located 25 kms northwest of Ahmedabad, in Mehsana District of Gujarat state. It is a shallow water reservoir. It has predominantly open water area, few islands and reed beds. This man-made wetland, was originally designed and used for irrigation but declared as a sanctuary in November 1988.

Birds

Large number of waterfowls gets attracted to this site due to shallow water and the agricultural fields surrounding the lake. The lake is also surrounded by good tree covers. There are more than 80 species of waterfowls reported at Thol.
